Our PEs serve in key roles throughout the organization—from product design and testing to quality assurance and technical training. These licensed engineers uphold the highest standards of engineering ethics and accountability, helping to ensure that every Cornell product meets the rigorous demands of our customers across agricultural, municipal, industrial, and mining markets.
Professional Engineers Day is an annual observance in the United States that recognizes the contributions of licensed Professional Engineers (PEs) to society, industry, and the public good.
When is it celebrated?
Professional Engineers Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday in August each year. In 2025, it falls on Wednesday, August 6.
Why was it established?
Professional Engineers Day was created to:
- Raise public awareness about what it means to be a licensed PE.
- Celebrate the hard work and ethical responsibility of licensed engineers.
- Highlight the role PEs play in safeguarding health, safety, and welfare through their work.
It was initiated by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 2016 to mark the anniversary of the first PE license issued in the United States—granted to Charles Bellamy in Wyoming on August 8, 1907.
